Data Privacy – A Competitive Edge to Drive Customer Loyalty – A Legal Perspective on the State of Data Security and Privacy

Thursday, May 17, 2018 - 9:45 AM - 10:20 AM
Watch any news channel for longer than 10 minutes, and you’re nearly guaranteed to be faced with topics regarding data privacy, and its erosion in the face of data breaches involving some of today’s largest corporations. These breaches, combined with upcoming GDPR compliance regulations, have forced brands to take a closer look at how they view customer data security.

Sal Orofino, a lawyer specializing in the field of data security, will share with attendees valuable insight on the value of data security and evaluating it from a variety of perspectives, rather than through the narrow view of a marketing silo. This session will prove to be a valuable resource for marketers looking to achieve a more defined grasp of data privacy at a time in which this understanding is more important than ever before.

Key takeaways:

- Privacy in the Context of Enterprise Loyalty: What is it, and what is it not?
- Privacy as a Challenge: Some 30,000-foot snapshots on why the concept is so difficult to concretize
- Privacy as an Opportunity: Heading into GDPR integration, what can brands learn that will ease internal confusion and aid external loyalty?
- Thought-starters on How: Insights from a privacy officer and enthusiast brand specialist where loyalty is a direct value proposition

Speakers

Sal Orofino, Principal, The Orofino Law Group

Sal Orofino’s practice focuses the intersection of lifestyle industries and digital compliance. As a  graduate  of The University of Arizona’s International Trade Law program, he worked at the  International Trade Administration’s NAFTA office as the lead Mexico Desk Officer. In Miami,  Orofino continued his international work in the field of off‐shore planning for financial firms and  high‐net worth individuals. Seeing a need for legal services without the inherent conflict  of  interest that big law presented, he launched his own practice  in 2007. Early clients included  CrossFit, RVCA, international brand WeSC and several top domestic and international athletes.  From there, Sal went in‐house with Connexions Sports, a subsidiary of Omnicomm to provide  media, contract and venture legal support to its clients. In 2012, Orofino created a practice area  for the intersection of advertising, data privacy and information security and became Chief  Privacy Officer  for ReadyPulse, one of the first SaaS providers  for brand  ambassador  and  influencer marketing, later acquired by industry leader Experticity. Sal has worked negotiated  privacy and digital advertising with large brands such as Nike, Nickelodeon, Reebok,  Twitter and North Face.  He has committed his practice to donate and be involved in natural  resource protection through his long‐standing commitment to 1% For the Planet. He writes the  Ask the Expert column for Transworld Business for digital, marketing and advertising law.
